DAY 13: Overcoming Guilt
Today I want to talk about overcoming guilt and condemnation through a positive heart attitude that will move you ahead in purpose and destiny. If real guilt needs to be dealt with, we need to ask God for forgiveness.
Finding your purpose is a journey. You will grow and develop as you take risks, but taking risks can mean sometimes things go wrong. When this happens, it’s perfectly natural to experience feelings of guilt and condemnation. The trick is not to let those feelings win. To do that, you need to make a positive heart attitude a habit in your life.
The key is to remember to see things from God’s viewpoint. Guilt and condemnation are not of Him. He may prompt your heart or conscience when He wants you to move in a certain direction by convicting you, but He does not bring guilt. God knows guilt, condemnation, and shame are debilitating – that’s why He sent Jesus to take it all away. God wants you to be victorious and to move toward your purpose with a heart full of delight for the great things in store! If you are carrying guilt, you can be sure it is false; if you confess to the Lord why you feel it and ask His forgiveness, this will break any strongholds over you. Once you do that, you must move forward.
Takeaway: God may prompt your heart or conscience when He wants you to move in a certain direction, but He does not bring guilt.
Challenge yourself: Write down at least one negative heart attitude (guilt, anger, fear, condemnation, etc.) standing in the way of your destiny. Be specific – if you feel guilt, what is causing your guilt?
Make a conscious commitment to leave these feelings behind as you move toward your destiny. Once you’ve made that commitment, write an affirmation statement about your new heart attitude. For example, I might write: “God, I feel so free not to carry guilt with me into my new purpose. I am free.”
Questions to consider:
- How can you put your affirmation into practice by intentionally putting this new heart attitude on as you move toward your destiny?
- What has to change for you to do this?
