Basics of the Christian FaithSample
… and I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord…
“God is faithful. He is the one who has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:9, ERV)
The word ‘Christianity’ is derived from the name of Jesus Christ. He is God the Son. While there are other religions believing in the existence of God, the belief that He exists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit is unique for the Christian faith.
The word ‘son’ usually implies a father and a mother who have a child together. But God does not have a wife, and Jesus has existed from eternity and will exist forever, just as God the Father. So, the word ‘son’ does not have this usual meaning when it applies to Jesus Christ. What it does express is that Jesus is of the same nature as the Father. He is just as much God. Moreover, it means that they have a close and loving relationship and that Jesus always acts like God the Father, fulfilling His will completely. The Bible phrases this as follows: “The Son shows the glory of God. He is a perfect copy of God’s nature” (Hebrews 1:3, ERV).
Since Jesus is God, He has the same authority as God the Father. Therefore, it is right to worship Him as Lord. He is worthy of our obedience and devotion. Do you worship Him?
