Basics of the Christian FaithSample
I believe in the Holy Spirit
“You are ruled by the Spirit, if that Spirit of God really lives in you. But whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9, ERV)
We read about God the Father and God the Son. Today, we study the last Person of the trinity: the Holy Spirit. The Bible also calls Him “the Spirit of God” or “the Spirit of Christ”.
The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force; He is just as much God as the Father and the Son. When Jesus announced that He would return to His Father in heaven, He promised to send the Holy Spirit as a Helper for the time till Jesus’ return. This happened at Pentecost, when the Spirit was poured out fully.
What makes the Holy Spirit so special is that He is very closely involved in people’s salvation. When somebody comes to faith, they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This Spirit dwells in their hearts and transforms their way of thinking. He makes them holy, which means that their sinful thoughts and habits are replaced by what is true and pure and beautiful. He makes them into new people.
The Holy Spirit also empowers and enables believers to fulfill their task within the church. Some people receive the gift to teach, others the gift to serve or to comfort — all for the common good.
So, the Holy Spirit is “God in us”.
Are you ready to let God dwell in your heart and take control over your life?
