Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

DAY 20 OF 35

Ask Your Generous Father

Pray…

Father God, you are the Lord of Heaven and Earth. You are holy. Your will is good and your Kingdom is righteous. Thank you that someday your Kingdom will cover the earth. Give us endurance to stay faithful to you. Help us show others the grace you’ve given us. Keep us safe and secure in your loving arms. Show us the way to life and freedom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read…

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:2-5 NLT

Consider…

James wrote these words to Christians undergoing intense persecution and hardship for their faith in Jesus. He wanted them to know that every trial and struggle is an opportunity to grow and become more like Jesus. And in the middle of those trials, our Father is more than willing to give us wisdom. All we have to do is ask. Because our God is a good Father. He is gracious and compassionate. He wants what is best for us and He wants to bring the best out of us. We are His children, and He’ll never stop loving us.

What situation or challenge do you need God’s wisdom to help you navigate? Bring that to Him. Trust that He will give you what you need.

Practice…

“Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:9-13 NLT

Write this passage down on a piece of paper, a note card, or in your journal. After that, take a few minutes to practice memorizing these verses in whatever way works best for you. At this point in the journey, there are probably some things that you know have been really helpful and some things that maybe didn’t work as well for you. Before you finish practicing, pray and ask God to plant these words deep in your heart.

Listen…

Set a timer for five minutes.

Find a quiet place and get alone with God. Maybe it’s outside, in your bedroom, or in your car. Just be still and listen to what God may be saying to you.

Ask Him to speak.

When you get distracted from your listening, come back to Jesus by meditating on your memory verse. Ask the Holy Spirit to change you to look more like Jesus today.

About this Plan

Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

In part 4 of Becoming Like Jesus, we are going to explore what it looks like and why it matters to internalize truth. We are going to let God’s Word do what it’s meant to: transform us from the inside out. And there’s no better place to start than with the core who we are, letting His truth shape our identity.
