Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

DAY 35 OF 35

God’s Partners

Pray…

Heavenly Father, thank you for having a good purpose and plan for me. Jesus, thank you for redeeming me and inviting me into that plan and into your Kingdom. Holy Spirit, make me into the kind of person who is eager and ready to join in what you are doing all around me. I open my eyes and heart to you today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read…

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. 2 For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:1-2 NLT

Consider…

In this passage, Paul draws the clear connection between our identity and our activity. He calls us partners with God and says that this identity should spark a different kind of activity—a lifestyle that doesn’t ignore the kindness of God, but actively works to show that same kindness to others.

We are people who have been heard by the Almighty, rescued from our slavery, and empowered by the Spirit to partner with God in His good, redemptive plans for the world.

What do you think it means for today to be the day of salvation? How does the invitation to partner with God change the way to look at the sometimes boring, mundane things you do each day? Going to school, working your job, hanging out with siblings or friends…What does it look like to team up with Him in those places?

Practice…

17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2nd Corinthians 3:17-18 NLT

At this point, you’ve honed in your process for internalizing truth. So, take a few minutes to practice this week’s memory verse in the way that works best for you and think about how you can keep this truth top of mind throughout your day.

Listen…

Set a timer for five minutes.

Quiet your heart by taking some deep breaths and letting God know any and every thought and feeling that surfaces—no matter how silly it is.

Once you release those things, ask God to speak to you.

When you get distracted from your listening, come back to Jesus by meditating on your memory verse. Thank the Holy Spirit for the ways He has changed you to look more like Jesus over the past few weeks.

And don’t stop here! On this journey of becoming like Jesus, we are invited to partner with God in His redemptive plans to rescue humanity and restore creation. There is a difference you are called and created to make. Press in and press on by choosing your next Switch Bible Plan.

Day 34

About this Plan

Becoming Like Jesus: Scripture Memorization

In part 4 of Becoming Like Jesus, we are going to explore what it looks like and why it matters to internalize truth. We are going to let God’s Word do what it’s meant to: transform us from the inside out. And there’s no better place to start than with the core who we are, letting His truth shape our identity.
