Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "A Place of Power"Sample
Today we will meet the third blind man. In this story, the blind man did not cry out for mercy, nor was there anyone who brought him to Jesus. However, Jesus knew that this man needed a miracle. He knew that this blind man could be a witness to the greatness of God. Sure enough, if we read the full passage in John 9:1-41, after being healed, the blind man testified to his family, neighbors, and even the Pharisees!
Jesus used yet another way to heal this man. He spat on the ground, mixed it with dirt, smeared this “concoction” onto his eyes, and told him to wash his face in the Pool of Siloam.
Do you think, if this blind man had refused to go to Siloam, or did go but only to wash his face in a restroom or the closest water source, would he have experienced a miracle? Maybe not. Isn’t it a bit complicated? He was already blind, his eyes were covered in dirt, and he still needed to walk to the pool of Siloam. But, this blind man was obedient. He did what was instructed by Jesus so that a miracle could happen in his life.
Sometimes, we are told by God to do something that doesn’t seem to make sense so that His power can work in our lives. Generally, when we are told to do something unnatural that doesn’t make sense, we initially refuse, delay, negotiate, or find another way. But remember, God wants us to OBEY Him. Something that doesn’t make sense can bring forth miracles. So, keep obeying God, even if your mind can’t comprehend it.
Devotion for Parents
Our human logic often contradicts God’s instructions to us. When we feel we should do something, God says to calm down and be quiet. When we feel the need to seek revenge, God says, “Love them.”
Obedience is difficult. If you have to obey 100% without questioning or bargaining, even more. But that’s what God wants. So the question is, do you want to learn to obey fully?
Devotion for Kids
As kids, we often hear that we must obey. May that be to our teachers, parents, and now God. Maybe you may ask, “Why do I always have to obey?” It’s also often that we think, “How can I obey that? It’s so hard!”
But, if you want God’s power to work over your life, obedience is key. The thing that WILL help you is when you know God, your parents, and leaders love you so much. When you trust them, then it will be easier to obey them.
Family Devotion Time
Share stories with each other about obedience.
How did it feel when it was difficult to obey, do what you have to, and what happened afterward.
Close in prayer with one commitment to keep obeying, more specifically obey God, in everything.
