Habakkuk

The internal struggle over why bad things happen is not new to humanity. This is an age-old question Habakkuk wrestled with as he sought to understand God’s plan in the destruction of Israel as a nation. God proved himself faithful to Israel even in hopelessness and evil.

Habakkuk 2:4 says, “The righteous shall live by his faith.” Faith was needed for the Israelites who sought God’s heart in the midst of hardship. Habakkuk 3:16-19 is a poem esteeming the sovereignty and faithfulness of God within hardship. The text affirms faith is intimately connected with trials.

Trials are never voluntary. They are not something we naturally choose for ourselves. But they are God’s proven divine design to bring about sanctification in our hearts and lives and increase our faith. The same was true for Habakkuk.

The main point of Habakkuk affirms God’s faithfulness. God was faithful in the invasion of foreign armies and the absence of food, water, or shelter. God is faithful in any and all circumstances because He is leading and guiding all things to the end of time when all creation will worship Him. Praise God because He is faithful.
