UNPACK this...What Is God Doing?Sample
What Was Up With That Pick?
Although many of the picks are predictable during the first round of the NFL Draft, some of the GMs’ selections surprise us, resulting in fans critiquing and questioning.
We can't understand why our favorite teams don’t choose the players we want…and think that certain players shouldn't wait so long to be taken.
Despite the confusing picks, ultimately fans have to trust that the front offices know what they’re doing.
Our questioning and doubts don't stop with sports. Unfortunately, we also question God when our lives don’t come together in the way we think they should or when things don’t make sense from our vantage point.
With a limited scope of information, we oftentimes can’t wrap our minds around what’s going on. We can't understand why God didn't give us what we wanted or we think we shouldn't have waited so long. The truth is, however, that He has a bigger plan, knows the future, and does what’s best for us.
Unlike NFL GMs, God’s decisions are always the right ones. He actually does know what He's doing!
Despite understanding this, it doesn’t stop us from asking these kinds of questions:
“Why won't You answer my prayer?”
“Why do my friends have to suffer?"
“Why has my child turned away from God?”
After seasons of doubt and questioning, we usually look back and discover how the difficult circumstances fit together with His perfect plan playing out.
A great example of this is when the disciples were confused by Jesus washing their feet in preparation for dying on the cross. John 13:6-7 says, “When He came to Simon Peter, he said to Him, ‘Lord, are You going to wash my feet?’ Jesus replied to him, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but you will [fully] understand it later.'”
Even the disciples were limited in their understanding of the bigger plan that was taking place.
Today, let’s not doubt the actions God takes, but believe in His awesome power and boundless love for us…trusting that He always has our best in mind.
I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray I wouldn’t be consumed with questions, but filled with trust and peace in knowing I’m limited in my understanding. Please help me remember Your plans are better than mine and Your ways are higher than mine. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
