Whatever He Calls, I'm Running It

During the 2020-2021 NFL season, Brian Daboll contributed to the Buffalo Bills winning their first playoff game in 25 years while in his role as the offensive coordinator.

After winning a National Championship with Alabama as an offensive coordinator and five Super Bowls as an assistant coach with New England, Daboll joined the Bills in 2018.

Although it took him time to add the right weapons before the offense started clicking, the strong relationships he developed with his players made a notable difference.

As a Bills’ newcomer, wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, gave this positive endorsement of his offensive coordinator:

“He’s a guy that knows what he’s doing, he knows the flow of the game, knows when to call what. We just trust him, whatever he calls, I’m running it…he always has our back and I ain’t seen him miss yet.”

In recognizing the confidence Diggs had in the team’s play-caller, how many of us would be willing to say something as bold when describing the most important and reliable “play-caller” in our lives?

Do we believe God “knows what He’s doing” and “knows when to call what”?

Do we declare what Psalm 56:3-4 says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose Word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”

Do we daily surrender and obey what He calls us to do because we “just trust Him, whatever He calls, I’m running it”?

Do we believe that God “always has our back” and is faithful, good, and perfect?

Psalm 9:10 reminds us, “And those who know Your name [who have experienced Your precious mercy] will put their confident trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not abandoned those who seek You.”

Brian Daboll knew the best plays to call for his team to thrive. As Diggs put it, “I ain’t seen him miss yet.”

Today, as we follow Jesus, let’s remember God loves us and knows the best “plays” to call. We can trust Him with immense confidence because “I ain’t seen Him miss yet.”
