Presence 10: Arts That Inspire Reflection & PrayerSample
I find these verses so reassuring. We are asked to present all our worries and anxious thoughts to God by prayer. As we start this devotion, in the stillness spend a few minutes thinking about some of the worries that are a constantly keeping your mind busy. You may want to list them. As you do this imagine yourself handing them over to God. Ask for the peace that transcends all understanding to be given to you.
I’d like to invite you to read or watch the video of ‘A Blessing’ which I pray will encourage you and bring you peace at this time.
A Blessing
May you catch your reflection
Unexpectedly
And remember who you are.
The burden you bear
Is not yours to carry,
The crushing expectation of success
Not yours to fulfil.
May you remember the contours of grace.
May you wake to being known,
Cherished, held
And believed in.
You are not wired to fail,
Enslaved by the shame
Of who you will never be.
May you sense the fierce pride
Of a mother’s delight
In her child.
May you be open to the presence
Of the re-shaper of stories
The adventure of new beginnings,
Moving beyond predictable repetition
To the wonder of all that is yet to be.
May you find joy in possibility.
May you know you are always welcome;
When light has dimmed
And faith feels spent
May deadness and loss
Give way to the gentle whisper
Of hope.
