Through the Bible: 1 Thessalonians

DAY 1 OF 3

Life of Faith, Love, Hope

We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labour of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-5 (ESV)

Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica with love to encourage their faithfulness while facing persecution. He gave thanks for them and for how they responded to their persecution with love, meeting opposition with grace and generosity. He was encouraged by their work of faith and steadfast hope in the coming Kingdom that Jesus had begun. Paul wanted to encourage these believers by praising the great work they’d done. How great is it to have a community in which to edify each other in both high and low times. May we be encouragers to those around us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for sending us brothers and sisters to show us Your love, to share Your mightiness with us, and to lead us to You. We pray for You to prepare us to be good neighbours, friends and encouragers to those around us. We pray all this in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 1 Thessalonians

While awaiting the return of Jesus in the midst of trials and persecution, Christians in Thessalonica must have been greatly encouraged to receive this letter from the Apostle Paul praising them for their persevering faith and giving assurances concerning the resurrection of believers who die before Christ returns. No matter our circumstances, let this letter encourage us that we may always rejoice and give thanks for our hope in Jesus.
