The Book of Romans: A 16 Day DevotionalSample

As we read the Bible, there are so many stand-out verses. We find that through His word God speaks into our circumstances, spreading light and wisdom.
Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do I believe? Why do I keep turning to the Bible?” I know I have… but my answer is in the confident hope that I have found since the day of my salvation. Without doubt or hesitancy. What is it though that gives me such confident hope?
As I began to read Romans 5 this time, what stood out to me was the title of the first half of this chapter “peace and hope.” These are emotions that I experience in association with my relationship with God in comparison to the turmoil and hopelessness prior to confessing my faith in Jesus.
What greater gift than those of peace and hope that we have received through Jesus by a humble act of faith (v. 1-2). Our past is behind us, left at the foot of the cross, and our eternal future is ahead of us, through Jesus’ justification on the cross (v. 6-9) and our act of faith to believe (v. 2).
Not only am I forgiven and have the assurance of eternal life but I now experience peace, an ultimate gift from God (Isaiah 45:7; Leviticus 26:6; John 14:27), and hope, a confident expectation or assurance based upon a sure foundation (Jesus) for which we wait with joy, confidence, and peace (Hebrews 11:1)
Reflection
It is the grace of God given to us when we choose, through faith, to receive Jesus into our lives. Our act of faith opens the door to receiving His love, peace, and hope. May our lives reflect this powerful gift in all circumstances.
