21-Day Devotional for Christian Writers

DAY 17 OF 21

I’ve often wondered why Jesus allowed Himself to be tempted by the devil. I mean, He’s God! I suspect the reason is more for our sakes than His. Jesus may be God in human form, but He chose to operate in His human weakness rather than display His heavenly glory. What a blueprint for Christians everywhere! Writing, like most professions, is filled with people making decisions every day about how they live out their faith. A screenwriter working for a television company might wonder how to reconcile his faith with the universalist storyline he’s been told to create for a television series. An independent blogger might be issued with hate crime for declaring that Jesus is the only way to God, and without Him, there is no hope for humans. In all these scenarios, much like satan tempted Jesus, the message is simple: All this will be yours if only you conform. And much like Jesus, our response to the world is: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only’ (v8). God bless and reward your faith in Him and His promises.
