21-Day Devotional for Christian WritersSample

God’s hand was upon Ezra because he “had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.” In other words, Ezra wasn’t just writing and studying the Word to have quick decisions for Christ. He was committed to discipleship, turning people to God and grounding them in the faith by using the Word.
In your writing life, aspire to be like Ezra: have an open heart towards the Bible. Be full of anticipation and, in as much as real life permits, aim to be diligent in your study of the Word. Because when your heart is open, you’ll find, like Ezra, that diligence comes a bit more easily and that diligence can be applied to your writing life. Which means that when you write, your words will be a natural outpouring of your studying and love of the Word and will be communicated to your readers: much like Ezra, a diligent did.
Our writing should reflect and reveal God’s character to our readers and bring them to a deeper revelation of Him. However, this is not something we’re expected to do ourselves. Ezra glorified God with his gift, and God was faithful and true to him.
Resolve to be a disciple of people for Christ today.
