Adulting Ain't Easy: A 7-Day Reading Plan for 20-SomethingsSample
Jesus, I Need You
You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need. PHILIPPIANS 4:19 THE MESSAGE
Cassidy’s baby boy cooed as she stared at him. He was perfect in every way—beautiful eyes, a button nose, pouty little lips. She’d always hoped to be one of those moms who posted perfect photos of their children, showing off the life she’d always wanted. Her daydream popped when her son started crying. The truth was her baby didn’t like to sleep, and Cassidy had no idea what to do. She was exhausted and at the end of her rope. She wanted to love motherhood. She loved her baby with her whole heart, but she was just so tired. Cassidy’s hair was stringy and unwashed. She tried to remember the last time she’d showered. She could hardly remember the last time she’d eaten. She definitely could not remember the last time she’d slept.
Cassidy yawned, closing her eyes for just a minute . . . but woke quickly to her son crying once again. Why did other moms make it look so easy? Cassidy felt alone and overwhelmed. “Jesus, I need You,” she prayed softly. Have you ever heard yourself whispering a prayer to God amidst a hard time? Have you been in a place where things felt too hard and too much, and the only words you had were “Jesus, I need You”? Jesus loves those prayers. He loves when we simply pray from our hearts. There’s a story in Scripture about two men who went to pray in the Book of Luke. The first man prayed a long, scholarly prayer. The second man simply looked to heaven and prayed a short, humble prayer to God. Jesus made it very clear that the second prayer—the one offered in complete dependence on Him—was the one He accepted.
Jesus isn’t waiting for us to get to the place where we pray perfect prayers. That’s not what He’s looking for. He simply wants us to sit and talk with Him. To tell Him about our day, our hurts, what’s bothering us, and what makes us happy. We are reminded in the Book of Ephesians to pray on all occasions about everything! We can come—anytime, about anything—to Jesus. He wants to hear our prayers. Even if it sounds like the simple words “Jesus, I need You.”
I CAN COME TO JESUS AS I AM.
Jesus, I need You. Every day, all the time. Thank You for accepting my humble prayers and for always being with me.
