Shield of Faith: Devotions for Military FamiliesSample
Faith Is Believing
For most people, life holds an amount of certainty—dependable routines, relationships, and familiarity. Military families don’t often have the luxury of certainty. Faith in God can be the unchanging sameness that makes all the difference when life constantly changes. Faith is not a blind hope that maybe God will come through for us—that maybe he’ll keep his promises. Faith is believing that God is who he says he is and will do what he says he will do. This belief is based on God already showing himself to be real to you and already keeping his promises. The rest of Hebrews 11 tells about people who demonstrated faith in their lives because of the reassurance that God would act according to his promises. When you have this kind of faith, you can confidently look to the future, trusting that God will not change and will continue to keep his promises. What is uncertain in your life right now that might require you to commit to having faith in God and allowing that faith to be what brings you certainty?
Dear God, thank you for your faithfulness and for keeping your promises. Please help me to live a life of faith and, even when I can’t see it, to know that you are working.
