Twelve Names of Christ for ChristmasSample
JESUS
“His name was called, Jesus” (Luke 2:21).
The name of Jesus is the most popular and recognized name in history. The world has mocked his name for centuries, yet at the same time, it has been worshiped by His children from the beginning of time. But there will come a day when the knee of every man, woman, and child will bow before that highly exalted Name:
“Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9–11).
This highly exalted Jesus exchanged His crown of glory for a crown of thorns. He exchanged a royal throne for a bloody cross. He emptied Himself that He might ever fill us with Himself. He came to earth to die for us because of His great love for the world.
“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:5–8).
Charles Wesley wrote in 1744 about this long-expected Jesus born to set His people free:
Come, thou long-expected Jesus,
Born to set thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us;
Let us find our rest in thee.
Jesus. The only begotten Son of God who came to bring us life, to bring truth and hope to each of us.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Jesus! There’s just something about that name! Let’s join together to worship the Name of Jesus this Christmas season.
Kids’ Corner
Make baby Jesus in a manger. Use an empty half-walnut shell and fill the bottom with moss or hay. Glue a very small wooden ball at the top edge of the hay. This will be Jesus’ head. Roll a small cloth for the body and glue it down under the head. Draw a face for Jesus on the wooden ball. Glue a small piece of gold pipe cleaner on the top of Jesus’ head for a halo.
