Twelve Names of Christ for ChristmasSample
WONDERFUL
In this reading plan, we will be focusing on twelve names and titles of Christ, many of which are used to describe Him at His birth and throughout His life. Christ has been given a highly exalted name above every name (Philippians 2:9-11) and is worth celebrating. For our first name, let’s start in the Old Testament book of Isaiah, who prophesied his birth in chapter 9, verse 6.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful . . .”
Jesus’ birth was full of wonder: Mary wondered at what the angel said, the people wondered at what the shepherds said, and the king wondered what the wise men said. It was something to wonder at—God was made manifest in the flesh in a tiny babe!
He was wonderful in His birth. He was wonderful in His life. He did many wonders. People were filled with wonder at His sayings.
His death was full of wonder as the people experienced darkness, felt the earthquake, saw the veil of the temple torn, and witnessed the Lamb of God take on their sins. His death was wonderful as it brought us life.
His Resurrection was full of wonder; it was a miraculous sight and a marvelous victory over death and the grave. Jesus revealed His wonderful love for us as He became our wonderful Savior!
He is Wonderful. It’s Who He is, and it’s what He does: “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” (Exodus 15:11)
“O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth” (Isaiah 25:1).
Kids’ Corner
Make a scroll of Isaiah 9:6. Take a long, thin piece of paper and write the Scripture in the middle. Decorate with markers. Roll the paper inward on each side and stop before reaching the printed verse. Glue, tape, or staple the rolled portion. Glue or tape a ribbon to the back for hanging, or glue a piece of cardboard (a bit smaller than the scroll) to the back and add a large magnet.
