Homeschool Moms Teach the Psalms (Psalms 22 - 26)Sample

Homeschool Moms Teach the Psalms (Psalms 22 - 26)

DAY 4 OF 5

Psalm 25 - Trust, Teach, and Truth

There are a lot of parallel verses and repeated topics within this Psalm, making it one that is fascinating to study.

The beginning and ending verses contain the wording of waiting on and trusting in God and the refrain of, “Let me not be ashamed.” We are never put to shame when we lift our souls to our trustworthy God, even amid enemies that surround us. (See verses 1-3; 20-21.)

There are also five instances where the Psalmist uses the concept of teaching. In verses 4 and 5, David asks to be taught:

Verse 4: Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me your paths.

Verse 5: Lead me in Your truth and teach me.

Verse 8 speaks of God as our Teacher: “Good and upright is the LORD; therefore, He teaches sinners in the way.”

And verses 9 and 12 show us what kind of person God can teach:

Verse 9: “. . . the humble He teaches His way.”

Verse 12: “Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.”

The remainder of the Psalm talks about man’s and God’s attributes. Words that describe man are: sinful, desolate, afflicted, distressed, in pain, and surrounded by enemies.

Some attributes ascribed to the LORD are merciful, lovingkindness, goodness, truth, deliverer, provider, and teacher.

Notice that for every sad or sinful attribute of man, God has an equal and redeeming attribute to compensate for and overcome. Truly, we have an incredible Lord.

Finally, right in the middle of this Psalm is a beautiful promise found in verse 14: “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.”

We can be confident that as we are taught of God and trust His provision, and as we humbly fear Him, He will reveal Himself and His covenant to us.

To Do With the Kids:

Trusting in God will be an important and ongoing concept for our children. Discuss how David had many needs and how God supplied them all. Discuss God’s love for us. He sees all that we go through and is ready to deliver us. Try creating a short poem together based on Psalm 25.
