God’s Standard of Righteousness

Have you ever watched a building being constructed? The most important part of constructing buildings is getting the foundation perfect. The foundation takes the load of the whole building and helps it stand through weathering and future calamities.
The Lord is saying that He has laid a foundation stone that is tried, perfect and precious. That foundation stone is none other than Jesus. Jesus is the foundation of our lives and our faith. When we base our lives on Jesus’ teachings, His life and death, we are building a sure foundation for our faith. A life built on Jesus as the foundation will neither crumble when the winds of false doctrine hit it, nor when the passing storms try to pull it down (Matthew 7:24,25).
Here’s another interesting fact about construction. To build something straight, a plumb line is used. A plumb line is a simple string with a weight at one end. When the plumb line is held vertically, one gets a perfectly straight line that can be used to check if walls are built perfectly straight.
In the same way, God’s justice and righteousness, as mentioned in the Bible, becomes our plumb line. We need to check our lives by the standard of righteousness that is found in His Word. Let our prayer this day be that we would always measure up to God’s standard of righteousness.

Dear God, I come to You today. Help me to build my life on Jesus and live it so that I may measure up to Your standards of righteousness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
