DAY 5 OF 7

DAY 5

Written by Faith Hughes

For I don't even know how long, I have used the phrase “planting little seeds” when I would refer to talking to a non-believer because I would sprinkle in the name of Jesus when they asked about my life. However, there was a point in my past where I let the enemy come in and speak lies that drifted me from these conversations. In the beginning, it starts with a so-called small lie, a lie that sneaks into your mind but slowly starts to take root as you go on. A common lie could be “it's not a big deal.” Before I found my way back to Christ, I found myself swearing constantly, but I kept telling myself it wasn’t a big deal because it was easier to say that than to face the fact that I started seeing the world through Satan’s eyes and not God’s.

Other lies could be “that’s not what God said” or “that dream is too big.” In Matthew 13:19 in "The Parable of the Sower," Jesus says, “The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts” (NLT). Jesus is talking about how the truth can fail to penetrate the surface so Satan comes in and steals it. Satan wants to steal our seeds because he wants to keep you from the plan that God has for you. And this can occur because we lack a deeper relationship with the Lord.

Having a surface-level relationship with the Lord can keep you from the plans that He has for you. I suspect many teen Christians would probably admit to not having a deep relationship with the Lord because that means He has to fully come inside and start working. That’s frightening because we may be scared or ashamed of what He may find. It may also be scary because we will have to give up living for the world. C.S. Lewis once said, “the more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become.” So, let God come inside and start working. Since letting Him in He’s got me through depression, an eating disorder, and He’s shifted my mind on how I see the world. You will be surprised by what kinds of things He can do in you and through you. Allow the seeds that have been sprinkled on top to go deep. Ponder on them, pray about them, and allow the Holy Spirit to grow them in your heart. Dig into God’s word to get understanding so you don’t allow Satan the ability to snatch it up. Then you can go out and sprinkle little seeds on those around you, sharing God’s word with anyone because everyone needs Him.

Pray this prayer with us today:

Heavenly Father, even though I may drift from You at times, thank You for patiently waiting to welcome me back with open arms. Lord, I give You full control. I give You control of every door that I may walk through. I give You control of every thought or action that isn’t of You. Help me to differentiate Your voice from others and be able to comprehend what You are trying to plant in my heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

About this Plan

Here to Hear

This reading plan will take teens through the “Parable of the Soils” that Jesus taught in Matthew 13. Written by teens for teens, this plan will help us discover how hearing and understanding God’s Word for our lives causes us to bear fruit in every season.
