DAY 12 OF 27

Scripture

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! Psalm 95:6

Summary

As humans, we are fully integrated beings. Our bodies, minds, and spirits are inextricably linked. What we do with one affects the others. That includes our physical postures of worship. The way we posture our bodies physically actually has an effect on our hearts spiritually. We are commanded in Scripture to lift our hands, to kneel, and to bow. These outward postures reveal an inward reality that's occurring in our hearts. Not only does it reveal what's happening, it actually helps it happen. Bowing signals and triggers humility. Kneeling signals and triggers surrender. As we worship our God both in private and onstage, let's take seriously His commands to worship Him with our whole selves: body and spirit.

Discussion Questions

1. How does our church do with physical expressiveness and postures of worship?

2. How could we cultivate more obedience from our congregation in this area?

3. Personally, which of these postures are you least comfortable with? Why so?

4. Any other thoughts, comments, ideas or questions you'd like to share?

Closing Prayer

(Ask the team to bow or kneel). Lord God. Thank you for our bodies. Help us to worship you with our physical bodies. Help us to also lead our church to be more physically expressive in their worship. Thank you for your greatness. We bow before you. You are Holy. You are just. You are mighty. You are good. You are worthy. We worship you, Lord Jesus. Be honored in our midst. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
