Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 4Sample

I once had a friend that read the following inscription on a cathedral wall: "Lord, what is on your agenda today, and how can I be a part of it?"
This statement has been an anchor to me in understanding what Jesus meant when he asked His disciples to lay down their lives for Him. In our wayward, live-for-your-own-happiness world, it’s easy to forget what it means to lay down your life. The amplified bible explains it so beautifully: It means to set aside your selfish interests, to express a willingness to endure whatever comes your way and to truly believe in Jesus while becoming more like Him every single day.
This calling to lay down our lives comes after Jesus promised to build His church. Jesus is building a movement of people for the sake of the Kingdom, and you are a part of this movement. Wherever He leads you, He promises to sustain you.
May this simple prayer guide you to lay down your life for His purposes as you interact with your family today, impact the people around you and love those that cross your path unexpectedly.
Lord, what is on your agenda today, and how can I be a part of it?
