HERO | A Children's Book Connecting Jesus' Ministry To Elisha

DAY 2 OF 13

I love to listen to Saba tell stories! My favorite stories are the ones that come from the Torah, our ancient book of faith. What most excites me about each story is that hidden within them all are promises of a coming King—a Messiah, a Hero, that will come to save us—and a Kingdom that Yahweh has promised to bring to our people.

Saba particularly loves to share the story about how God created the world. He tells of how our God hovered over the waters at the beginning of time in a brilliant light. God spoke into the darkness and called land and sky up from the deep. Fish darted out of freshly formed coral. Birds sprang from the caves of the majestic mountains, and human beings rose from the dust.

Saba tells the story and speaks loudly as he moves about the room, making vibrant noises to get me smiling at the thought of those beautiful moments when all of Yahweh’s creation came into being. I love when he gets so overwhelmed with excitement. Sometimes he even falls over our table and onto the floor—rolling around laughing and giggling as if to show the joy Yahweh had in making all of us.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

HERO | A Children's Book Connecting Jesus' Ministry To Elisha

John's gospel can be broken into four parts: an Introduction (John 1:-1:18), the Book of signs (1:19-12:50), the Book of exaltation (13:1-20:31) and an epilogue (Chapter 21). In the book HERO, children and adults alike, can adventure with Eli and Saba (Eli’s Grandfather) on a wild ride of storytelling and discovery, and discover how John’s Gospel intentionally pairs John the Baptist's ministry with Elijah, and Jesus’ ministry with Elisha.
