KIDS: The Past, Present & Future of Following JesusSample
Where Am I Going?
Story
If there’s anything people of all ages like to talk about from the Bible, the “end of the world” stuff has got to be the most popular. Even people that have never read the Bible like thinking about it and will eagerly watch what other people have to say about it. So far, you’ve learned about who you are in Christ and what you’re supposed to be doing as a Christian. Well, there’s just two more questions you need to ask: “Where is all this going, and where am I going?”
Bible
People who like to study the Bible can reference important passages about what’s coming for those who believe in Jesus (especially Daniel & Revelation), and many books have been written and debated about what it all means. But for our purposes, we’ll read Philippians 2:10–11 (ERV), which says, “God did this so that every person will bow down to honor the name of Jesus. Everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth will bow. They will all confess, ‘Jesus Christ is Lord,’ and this will bring glory to God the Father.”
Think
There will come a time when everyone, believers and non-believers, will have to say the name of Jesus as a way to show He is Lord. As you get older, you will become aware of the way the world is broken. Sometimes it will feel like the “bad guys” always win, while people who try to do good are punished. There will be hard times as well as good times, and you will be tempted to ask, “What is all my believing for?”
The good news is that Jesus wins in the end. As Christians, we have a glorious future to look forward to! No matter the challenges that life throws at you, no matter how hard life might get, there will come a time when all of it is over and you get to be in the presence of God at last! All questions will be answered, all hurts will finally be healed, and justice will finally be done. All we have to do is believe and wait for that day.
Do Something
When you read the Bible, start looking for passages that talk about a glorious future. There’s a lot of them! It’s easy to gloss over those at first, but once you begin to notice that a lot of the Bible is committed to getting us to look forward to the future, it will be hard to miss! Start with the Gospels and see for yourself how often Jesus and His disciples talk about the future.
