Dads & Daughters: Stronger Together

DAY 2 OF 5

Day 2: Embracing Unconditional Love and Forgiveness

"A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society." - Billy Graham

Today, let's explore the importance of embracing unconditional love and forgiveness in your relationship with your daughter.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs."

Reflect on the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). The father in the parable demonstrates unconditional love and forgiveness by welcoming his son back with open arms after he had squandered his inheritance.

What a POWERFUL story of LOVE! Even after everything the prodigal son did, his father welcomed him with open arms.

I know how much that story HITS me, and I believe it will resonate with you as well.

As you go about your day, consider this reflective question: How can you actively demonstrate unconditional love and forgiveness to your daughter, even when it's challenging?

Take some time and sit with the Holy Spirit. Allow Him to reveal what you need to do.

His way and timing are perfect.

In your weakness, He is your strength.

He loves you.

Let it go.

Part 2 - Daughters:

"Fathers, be your daughter's first love and she'll never settle for anything less." - Unknown

Today, let's focus on appreciating your dad’s love and embracing the gift of forgiveness.

Colossians 3:13 says "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

Take a moment and consider the relationship between Jesus and His disciples.

Despite their flaws and failures, Jesus continued to love, forgive, and teach them.

Can you even imagine the patience Jesus had with His disciples?

Jesus had to see the slivers of greatness inside of them.

As you go about your day, consider this reflective question: How can you recognize and appreciate the love and forgiveness your father offers, even when it's not perfect?

This may be the hardest thing you have ever considered.

There may be many hurts you have lodged deep within your soul.

I want to challenge you not to brush over them but rather sit with them.

Allow the Holy Spirit to sit with you. His love is far greater than you could ever imagine.

You don't have to do this alone.

He is there with you.

Let it go. You don't need to hold onto those weights anymore.

Forgive, just as you have been forgiven.

He loves you so much.
