Dads & Daughters: Stronger Together

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Strengthening Your Spiritual Bond

"To be as good as our fathers we must be better; imitation is not discipleship." - Wendell Phillips

On our final day together, let's focus on strengthening your spiritual bond with your daughter by praying together and sharing your faith.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road when you lie down, and when you get up."

Reflect on the example of Lois and Eunice, Timothy's grandmother and mother, who nurtured Timothy's faith from a young age (2 Timothy 1:5).

Their influence was instrumental in his spiritual growth and ministry.

Dads, your words, and rhythms are impactful seeds for your daughter’s future.

Just as God spoke this world into existence, you have the power to speak into hers. [HELLO!]

As you go about your day, consider this reflective question: How can you intentionally invest in your daughter's spiritual growth by praying together, discussing your faith, and sharing your spiritual journey?

It's time to not just talk about growing stronger together.

This is the challenge God had in mind for you.

It's a stewardship test.

I'm believing you will rise up to be the man God called you to be.

Part 2 - Daughters:

"Behind every great daughter is a truly amazing dad." - Unknown

Let's focus on growing spiritually with your dad by embracing shared faith experiences.

Proverbs 3:1-2 says, "My daughter, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity."

I can remember when my dad would teach me the importance of confessing scriptures.

He did it every single day.

He taught me the importance of it. I didn’t like it at the time, but now it’s one of the most impactful lessons I learned.

I can truly say those lessons from my dad truly brought, “peace and prosperity.”

Check out the story of Jairus, a synagogue leader who sought Jesus' help for his daughter (Mark 5:21-24, 35-43).

Their shared faith in Jesus' healing power brought them closer together and demonstrated the strength of a united spiritual bond.

As you go about your day, consider this reflective question: How can you embrace opportunities to grow spiritually with your dad, deepening your relationship and shared faith experiences?

This is one of the greatest things you can do.

I also know it will require FAITH.

Allow me to pray for you and your dad as you begin this journey.

Lord, be with them.
surround your arms around them.
Unite them as you created them.
Where they see hurt, I ask for humility.
Where there is pride, I ask for your presence.
Where there is shame, I ask for your love.
Bring them closer together than they have ever been.
And help them lead other Dads and daughters to be closer to you.
Bless them and keep them close to you.
Amen.
