Catechism: Prayer & Worship - Reflection

DAY 3 OF 3

Serving Is Worship. As we talked about yesterday, loving your neighbor as yourself is an act of generosity. Serving them is part of that, but what does that look like?

One of the most shocking moments in the Bible comes at the end of Jesus’ ministry. The Son of God asks his followers to join him for the Passover meal, and, when they arrive to eat, Jesus gets up from the dinner table, wraps a towel around his waist, and begins to wash his disciples’ feet.

The men didn’t know what to do or how to respond. How could their Teacher, their Lord, be a servant? To them, that didn’t seem right, and they didn’t know how to let Jesus serve them. But in that moment, Jesus was setting an example for us and reminding us of how we should really behave.

Choosing humility and serving others first was foundational to the way of Jesus; through serving we can worship and glorify God!

Have you ever taken time to serve someone else? Maybe at lunch you sat with a lonely kid at your school, or maybe you brought food to someone in need. These moments of serving others are a beautiful opportunity to follow Jesus’ example and display his love to others.

And the goal of serving is summed up in 1 Peter 4:11: in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

If you’re already serving or volunteering somewhere, be encouraged and remember that you are the hands and feet of Jesus as you serve others. The Bible teaches that when we’ve served others, it is like we are serving God himself.

If you haven’t yet started to serve, take some time to pray about taking a step of faith this week and looking for an opportunity to help someone in need.

Consider: Think about where God has placed you—your neighborhood, your apartment building, or even in your school. Who around you needs help or needs a friend, and how can you worship God by serving that person?

Reflect: How did Jesus serve others while he walked on the earth? Take a moment to remember and reflect on how he humbly helped others and say a prayer thanking him for his kindness and love.

Day 2

About this Plan

Catechism: Prayer & Worship - Reflection

There’s only One who is worthy of our worship: God himself. And it's what we were created for and called to do—to reflect Him by living a life of worship—a lifelong response to God revealing himself to us, in us, and through us. This plan is part 3 of 4 from the Feed Catechism's Prayer and Worship series.
