Who Is God? A Study for Teens

DAY 1 OF 5

Who Is God?

READ: Isaiah 6:1-8 and Revelation 4:1-11

A.W. Tozer said, “What comes to mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you.” Our perception of who God is can dictate so many things in our lives. Our behavior, our habits, and our decisions are directly influenced by our view of God.

So, who is God? How do we know if we have the right definition? Well, thankfully, God gave us a book to tell us who He is! He reveals His character through the pages of Scripture. We’ve been given so many examples of the nature and character of God through the Bible that we’re left without excuse.

In Isaiah 6 and Revelation 4, we see some unique encounters that mere humans have with the Almighty God. They don’t just hear His voice or get a glimpse of His presence, they have a vision of the throne room! Both Isaiah and John are given a backstage pass into the presence of God in heaven. And, do you know what happens in both of these instances? These men are left in complete shock. They both respond with total submission and even repentance! Isaiah, for example, recognizes his own sinful condition. He realizes he’s not worthy to even be in the presence of a holy God. And we’re not talking about your average, everyday dudes. These two men were absolute LEGENDS in the faith. These were men who passionately followed after God!

So, what does that mean for us? I believe we’ve adopted a very shallow view of God in our society today. We may not say it out loud, but many Christians act like God is just some “higher power” who intervenes here and there, but mostly leaves us alone. That perspective couldn’t be further from the truth. The God of the Bible is intimately involved in even the smallest details of our lives. And even more than that, He’s a lot more powerful and holy than we realize. Let’s be clear: The same God Isaiah fell face down and worshiped, the same God the angels sing to 24/7, and the same God who speaks and shakes the doorposts is the same God we worship! Our response to God should be total submission. God isn’t a fairy who swoops down to help us out when we’re in trouble. He’s the King of the Universe and He’s in charge. It’s time we start acting like it.
