The Story of My Life - Seeing Yourself in the Life of Moses

DAY 5 OF 15

No Hidden Sins

Invitation to SELAH

Before you spend time face-to-face with God today, take some time to SELAH (Stop, Exhale, Lean In, Ask & Hear).

Reflect

We’ve all had a moment similar to this. For Moses, life seemed to be going well. He had grown up in a fairly comfortable life—sheltered from the harsh realities around him, but his eyes finally were opened to the injustice and persecution of his people. Moses was quick to respond to injustice by committing a similar crime—he killed an Egyptian soldier. You see, when we assume that justice is decided by us, we make a grave error. God is the only perfect Judge, always judging fairly. He alone is just all the time. Moses did what all of us do immediately after sinning—we try to hide and cover it up. Some of us have gotten really good at keeping our sin a secret.

While you read, pay attention to verse 14. Moses was afraid, thinking to himself that everyone knew what he did. In the church, we shouldn’t fear having people find out what we did. Instead, we should be afraid of the isolation, darkness, and destruction that come from hidden sin. Take time to reflect on some things that you may keep hidden in your life. Today, not tomorrow, is the day to repent.

Respond

After you've read the passage today grab a journal or open your notes. Take some time to reflect on today’s reading. Use the SOAP acronym to help you engage. (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer).

  • Scripture - What did you read?
  • Observation - What did you learn?
  • Application - What will you do?
  • Prayer - Write out a prayer talking to God like a friend.

Additional Readings Suggestions:
