Romans: A 21-Day Musical DevotionalSample
No Shame
The previous day’s devotion showed, in a sense, the narrowness of God’s mercy: in His sovereign decree, he chooses to save a portion of humanity; in today’s passage, Paul emphasizes the wideness of God’s mercy: from all nations, races, and social classes is the Lord bringing people into this remnant, not just Jews but also Gentiles. If God’s people can be illustrated as a tree, then Israel has served as the root. Paul says that God is grafting Gentiles into this tree of salvation, as a wild olive shoot is joined together with a thriving tree. Jews and Gentiles have been brought together into one people of God.
So has the Word of God failed? No, it has not failed. God’s promises to Israel were true, and we can trust that His promises to us are true as well.
