Romans: A 21-Day Musical DevotionalSample

What Shall We Say, Pt. 1
Paul’s use of the phrase “What shall we say?” throughout this letter is called a rhetorical question. Without expecting a response, he poses this question to his readers in various contexts and then answers it himself, thus allowing him to anticipate and reply to their concerns. Here in chapter 6, the primary concern is whether or not believers should continue sinning so that God’s grace may increase. “By no means!” is Paul’s emphatic response. If you have died with Christ, then you have been raised with Him to newness of life. Relatedly, if you have been freed from slavery to sin, then you should no longer live under its reign and rule. Thanks be to God for his saving work in Jesus!
