A 7-Day Easter Devotional From Integrity MusicSample
"We Believe”
(Based on the song "We Believe" by Travis Ryan)
Charles Blondin, a French acrobat, crossed over Niagara Falls on a tightrope over 300 times in four decades. But one of his most famous trips across was when he carried his manager, Harry Colcord, on his back. Blondin is recorded as instructing his manager as they began their walk over the rushing Falls: “Look up, Harry.… you are no longer Colcord, you are Blondin. Until I clear this place be a part of me, mind, body, and soul. If I sway, sway with me. Do not attempt to do any balancing yourself. If you do we will both go to our death.”
This, I think, is what faith in God is like. You see, “We believe that” is a statement about something; it is what is known as “propositional truth.” It is something we propose as true. But there is some distance between you and it. You may believe that Blondin can cross the tightrope; but you don’t believe in Blondin until you’re willing to climb on his back. Faith beckons you onto the wire, not to walk alone or to balance yourself, but to cling to Jesus.
Where are you holding God at a distance today? Believing that God is the “Father, the Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth,” believing that Jesus is the one who “came down from heaven” and who suffered death “for us and for our salvation,” believing that the Spirit is the “Giver of Life” is not the same as believing in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In your hour of desperation, when there is nowhere else to turn, when the roar of the waters raging below rises to overtake you…it will not do to believe that God is a savior. You have to believe in Him.
It is one of the great tricks of the enemy to get us to make faith distant and cold, a checklist of things to say and adhere to. This kind of faith leaves us to rely on our strength and wisdom. But the faith we are invited into is a faith that asks us to cling to God with everything, until it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us.
And here’s the beauty of it all: God is waiting for you to come near to Him. He has already come near to you. Today is Maundy Thursday, the day when Jesus gave his disciples a new mandate—a new commandment—to love one another as He had loved them. And how did He show His love for them, even before the cross? By taking off his robe, taking up the towel and the basin, and bending down to wash their feet. God has come near to you. Cling to Him today. Click below for an Easter Chord Chart and MP3 bundle.

About this Plan
Holy Week is a time for prayer and praise, reflection and celebration. As you enter this season, may you do so with fresh wonder and renewed thankfulness for the divine exchange that has given us victory over sin and the grave through the death and resurrection of Jesus. A season that reminds us we have been made heirs to our Father’s Kingdom through the Blood of the Lamb.
