A 7-Day Easter Devotional From Integrity MusicSample
“Risen”
(Based on the song "Risen" by Covenant Worship)
I don’t know if “catastrophization” is a thing, but if it were, I would be an expert in it. It’s the art of taking a normal scenario and imagining the worst possible outcome, making a catastrophe out of a normal sunny day, thinking a paper cut will turn to a gangrenous infection, and so on.
But, seriously, have you ever wondered, What if the worst came true? What then? Would it be the end?
The truth is, the worst day in human history has already occurred. There is no day that could be darker than the day that Jesus died. The Gospel writers speak of the sky blackening in the middle of the afternoon. It is the very worst day there ever was and ever will be.
And yet we call it “Good Friday.” Why? And why is the song paired with this devotional about the resurrection? It doesn’t make any sense. Frankly, it seems a bit odd to think about resurrection on such a dark day.
But it is the resurrection on Sunday that makes Friday good. There would be nothing good about the powers of religion and government colluding to crucify the Son of God. There would be nothing good about humanity cementing our rebellion against the Creator by betraying the Redeemer. There would be nothing good about the Light and Life of the World being snuffed out by Death.
Except that we know what’s coming. Jesus the Crucified would become the Risen One.
So, if “the same power, that crushed the enemy” lives in you and in me, where are the “dead ends” that God wants to open up?
What are the places where it seems like it’s over, like the worst has occurred?
What would it look like to believe that the worst day will not be the last day?
The story will not end with death. Click below for an Easter Chord Chart and MP3 bundle.

About this Plan
Holy Week is a time for prayer and praise, reflection and celebration. As you enter this season, may you do so with fresh wonder and renewed thankfulness for the divine exchange that has given us victory over sin and the grave through the death and resurrection of Jesus. A season that reminds us we have been made heirs to our Father’s Kingdom through the Blood of the Lamb.
