Have you ever played a game of Monopoly? Not only is it the most successful board game ever, but it's also known for starting massive fights during family game night. In order to really win at Monopoly, you have to work to collect more money and properties than anyone else, and it's all at their expense. But we can't approach following God like a game of Monopoly. In fact, it looks like the exact opposite.
In today's reading, you'll see how the earliest followers of Jesus approached living among each other. They show us how God's family isn't a place for division or only looking out for ourselves. Instead, we can choose to pay attention to what others need and then share the things we have. When everyone learns to contribute, we all see there's enough to go around for everyone.
In God's family, the focus is on generosity. Instead of storing things up for our own benefit, we're invited to pay attention to the people around us and look for ways we can fulfill their needs. All of us, regardless of how long we've been following God, have the chance to use what we've been given to help others feel connected and loved. When we're honest about our needs, share what we have to offer, and notice what's happening around us, we're engaged in living like God's family. We can help others see how there is enough when we share what we have.

About this Plan

For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
