In the fairy tale, Cinderella, the selfish stepsisters want all of the attention. Not only do they want the attention, they want all of the stuff. They are never satisfied — always wanting more, more, more.
They throw out the clothes and accessories they no longer deem "good enough," and Cinderella's little critter friends make her a dress out of their discarded items.
Her stepsisters didn't want to share because they really believed they were more deserving than her. They didn't want Cinderella to have the opportunity for happiness they desperately wanted for themselves.
Sometimes we can fall into the same trap. We are afraid that if we share with someone else, we may suffer or have less assurance. It is easy to want to hoard stuff, money, or opportunities because we are concerned that sharing will elevate someone else and cause us to fall behind.
The good news is that life is not full of all or nothing when it comes to what we have. When we lift someone else up, we don't automatically go down. Instead, when we give someone else a boost, we stand tall, too.
When we treat others the way we want to be treated, we not only lend a hand, we develop our character, too.

About this Plan

For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
