One Perfect Plan: The Bible's Big Story in Tiny Poems

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: The Creation Story

The Holy Bible is a BIG book! Did you know there are 783,137 words and 66 books in the King James Version of the Bible? That’s A LOT of reading! And the Bible begins with one word.

One word—
then light breaks into darkness;
The sky, the seas, and life—how wondrous!
One garden—
here’s Eden, where God’s creatures roam;
see Adam and Eve in their glorious home.

Can you imagine a perfect world—a really, really good world? In such a place, you would never experience mosquito bites or boo-boos. There wouldn’t be any yucky food to eat. You could play outside all the time because the weather would be perfect, and toys would never break. No one would go hungry or cry or fight. A family would always stay together, and no one would get lost. And the best part is everyone would have a whole relationship with God again. We would be able to talk to God, as Adam and Eve did when they walked together in the garden. Surely, the Garden of Eden must have been like Heaven on Earth. At first, Adam and Eve obeyed God’s rules and believed God loved them and had good things in mind for them. If only Paradise could have lasted forever.

Question: What does a perfect day look like to you? Does it include a trip to the zoo to see your favorite animal? Or does it mean having time to read a stack of books from the library?

Prayer: Dear God, Wow! We live in an amazing world created by You. Thank You for the sand on the beach, the leaves on the trees, and a family who surrounds me with love. Amen.
