A Different WaySample
When was the last time you were stubborn about something? Maybe it was a while ago, or maybe it was a few minutes ago. The truth is, we all get stubborn sometimes. It’s part of being human. We don’t always like to change our way or change our minds or admit that we’re wrong (even if we know we’re wrong).
A lot of people live pretty stubborn lives. Once they find the kind of life that they think is best, they dig their heels in and fight off anyone who tries to get them to change their ways. A lot of times, that’s even celebrated. Our world tells us things like, “Live your life,” “You do you,” and “Go your own way.”
The way of Jesus, however, is different. Rather than “Go your own way,” Jesus says, “Give up your own way.” Rather than “Live your life,” Jesus says, “Give up your life for my sake.” The way of Jesus is a very different way than a lot of us are used to. It’s not a life for the stubborn – it’s a life for the humble. It’s a life for those who are willing to let someone else be in the driver’s seat of their life. This different way of life is not always easy, but it’s a life that leads to true joy, peace, and fulfillment.
Reflect:
1. What about this passage stood out to you?
2. What is Jesus saying in this passage?
3. What does it mean for you to follow Jesus?
Pray:
Ask Jesus “Who do you want me to be?” Sit in silence for a couple of minutes and wait for His response. Ask Him if there is anything in your life that He wants you to give up for His sake.
