Have you ever tried to grow grass in a yard? You can spend hours researching all of the steps you need to to have the best chance for the seeds to sprout. But there’s one another step—you also have to deter birds from eating the seeds. And the best way to do that is to place things around the yard that would distract them. Things like hanging tiny mirrors that would spread light and tying streamers to the side of my fence. All of these obstacles would work together to try to keep the birds away.
It can sometimes feel like our lives are full of distractions. We’re surrounded by shiny objects and material things dangling in front of us to try to lead us in a certain direction. But we know where our focus should be.
We know that to live the life that God wants for us, we have to keep our eye on the ultimate prize—eternal life. Nothing else on this earth could ever compare to an everlasting life spent with Jesus Christ. Knowing this doesn’t necessarily keep the distractions away, but it does help us to keep our focus when tempting lies start whispering in our direction. What are some things you can do this week to help you keep your focus on God? It could be as simple as spending the first minutes of your day in prayer or memorizing a favorite scripture.

About this Plan
We all have to deal with temptation at some point in our lives. Why does it have a hold on us and what can we do to break it? We’ll read what God says about temptation to see that while we each have temptations of our own, we never have to go through the struggles alone. Even when we’re faced with tempting thoughts, there is always a way through.
