Milestones - Salvation, Baptism, CommunionSample
Think about water. It’s refreshing, it’s hydrating, it washes away dirt, it cleans and cleanses. Being baptised in water is symbolic; it represents washing away sin, leaving the old behind, and rising out of the water to a new life. Water baptism also symbolises how Jesus was buried and raised to life again. Going down in the water is like the burial of our old life, and then coming up out of the water is like being raised to our new life.
Many churches have baptisms regularly. There may be a special pool or ‘baptismal’ at your church that is filled with water. Some churches might set up a pool outside or even have baptisms at the beach! You can choose to be baptised when the time is right for you, and then the next time your church is hosting baptisms, you can be baptised too. You can invite friends and family to come and see you be baptised. When it’s your turn, you’ll enter the water and a pastor or church leader will ask you, “Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour?” After you answer, next they will say, “At the confession of your faith, I baptise you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” They will place their hand on your shoulder or your upper back and help lower you into the water and lift you back up again. When you step out of the water, a pastor or church leader may pray for you.
