What's the Hurry?Sample
Day 5: Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Life is But a Dream
Can you think of any songs or literary works exploring the brevity of life? Immediately, a few quotes come to mind. From the beginning of time, man has pondered the meaning of life. Insurance companies today profit from the uncertainty of life. Our brother Job (of the Old Testament) contemplated life throughout 42 chapters of the book as he discussed life with his friends and God, Himself.
I once attended a funeral out of sheer obligation. The woman who passed away was known to me as someone who abused prescription drugs and had a history of other illegal drug use. In her last years, she was unhealthy, depressed, and known to be a bigot. At her funeral, there was a picture on an easel of a beautiful young lady with long flowing hair and striking features. To my surprise, it was her! She had modeled for a well-known department store catalog in her early years. She had also been a telephone pole repair lineman (or linewoman) and an airline stewardess in her lifetime. I was amazed at how such a beautiful, adventurous, and successful woman could have ended up like she did. After thinking about her life, I had an epiphany. At any point in our short lives (compared to eternity), everything can change suddenly. It's up to us. It's all about decisions. We should practice making morally sound choices for ourselves and others around us. When presented with a choice, choose to please God, as our choices direct our paths.
Life is hard and short. Regardless of what you do, consider the legacy you will leave behind. The silver lining: Make the most of life while you are here by loving others as Christ has loved you. Enjoy the brevity of life while working on earth to build riches in Heaven. Rejoice in the promise that those who belong to Christ will spend eternity with Him, where no good thing will be destroyed. Finally, slow down, for your eternity depends on it.
I pray this plan encourages you.

About this Plan
Each day, I ask myself, “Why is everyone in such a hurry?” People are so stressed and in a rush that it is obvious our society has forgotten about the truly important things. This devotional is designed to help us refocus and invite Christ back into the center of our lives. When we focus on Him, everything else becomes secondary and a lot less stressful.
