Abundance In The Bush - Country Devotions PART 2

DAY 8 OF 14

Your Boomerang’s Back!

Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. (Matthew 7:1-2 from The Message Bible).

Your boomerang has come back. Judge yourself with the same measure you use on others. You know - the bloke you’re looking down on - the one who is not as good a partner/parent/professional/person. The woman whose character/choices/career/cleaning are very sad. The bottom line when we judge others is disrespect. On a scale of 1 to 10, we measure a person only worth a 2, and though we don’t admit it, we reckon we’re worth an 8 - not perfect but much better than them. Fair crack of the whip there mate. Are your character and decisions squeaky clean? What about the mistakes you’ve made as a person, employer/ee, spouse, sibling, parent or child? The things you find so gross in others may well be hiding within you in some form.

There isn’t one of us who can say we’ve always lived up to what we have known to be right. After you’ve jumped on your own failures for a bit, ask yourself, “Who really is worthy of more respect?” Neither you nor I deserve to be respected any more than the other person, because we’ve all blown it before God.

When you go to the bottom and see your own filthy rags, you realize we’re all the same, none is right in their own ability. We’re all on a big fat zero until we receive God’s pure gift to get us out of the mess we’re in - salvation and worth through His Son Jesus Christ. And then we’re worth a 10 in Him. Only because of Him.

Father, when You shine the same light on me that I use to measure others, I don’t like what I see. Forgive me for thinking I was better than others. Thank you Holy Spirit for saving me and lifting me out of the miry clay. Amen.
