The Thin Line Between Fear & Faith

DAY 2 OF 5

Day 2: Elijah

The first up is Elijah. He was fresh off of a huge miracle against hundreds of pagan prophets. When the horrible Queen Jezebel got word of what he did she threatened to kill him so Elijah ran away. And he didn’t just run across the street. He ran from Jezreel to Beersheba which is a distance of about 100 miles.

What made Elijah run after God had just given him such a powerful victory?

Certainly he was fearful of being killed after hearing the queen’s threats. However he was also in danger when he challenged king Ahab and his prophets just before. Maybe he didn’t fear Ahab all that much because Jezebel was really running the show during his reign.

I’m not sure of the specific reason Elijah crossed the thin line from faith to fear, but I do know he was facing very real danger. He was also discouraged and he felt alone because so many of the prophets of God had been slain.

Do you relate to those triggers at all? When something is dangerous or risky does that cause you to run away? What about loneliness?

When you read Elijah’s situation look for ways you can relate.

About this Plan

The Thin Line Between Fear & Faith

Sometimes the line between fear and faith is razor thin. A moment, a decision, or a split-second choice can demonstrate whether we are living in fear or acting in faith. In the midst of difficulty, how do we ensure our faith remains in God and no other source? This devotional covers how to remain in faith or return if we’ve left.
