Stand your Ground
Bible Story: Death of Stephen (Acts 6:8-15, 7:51-60)
As we study the Armour of God and the book of Acts, it’s important to recognize that we put the Armour of God on as we live it. You cannot pray to put on your belt of truth. As you tell the truth with your mouth, and believe the truth of God in your heart, your belt of truth is on.
Neither can you pray to pick up your shield of faith. As you live with faith, believing what God says and not what men say, you have your shield of faith in your hand and you are using it to protect against the enemy.
This same principle is the same for standing your ground. You cannot pray specific phrases of a prayer to stand your ground. As you believe God and refuse to give up, you are standing your ground.
Stephen was a great example for us in today’s Bible story from the book of Acts. He was a righteous and wise man, who continually wore his Armour. When religious opposition arose against him, he stood firm with what he believed, even though it meant sure death for him. The religious leaders were so angry with him for preaching about Jesus Christ that they stirred the crowd to violence and eventually stoned Stephen to death.
Throughout this whole Bible story, Stephen stood firm with what he believed, and did not change his opinion based on the public opinion. As you believe God and are willing to be persecuted for it, you are standing your ground, and standing firm as you wear the whole Armour of God!
"I choose to stand firm."
Questions:
1. What are the ups and downs of human life?
2. When do we need to stand against Satan?
3. What is the most important act we need to do to stand firm?
4. Who is known to have a face like an angel when he was falsely accused?
5. What did he say before he died?
About this Plan
Putting on the Armour of God isn’t a prayer ritual to do every morning but a way of living that we can start while young. This reading plan written by Kristi Krauss looks at heroes from the book of Acts.
