The Power in Silence and SolitudeSample
AN EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW
As we study the Bible, we learn and can easily observe that Jesus was never in a hurry. The best way to learn about the value of solitude is from Jesus’ life. We never read of Jesus living a frantic life. He walked everywhere He went. We never read of Him running anywhere. He lived from a rest that allowed Him to do the will of His Father. We’re fortunate that the Bible records the many times when Jesus separated himself from people. What an example to study. Let His ways inspire us all!
Likewise, we are invited every day to stop the frenetic pace, get off the merry-go-round, and calm our hearts in the love of our Father. We are invited to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). This sweet rest can only be found in ceasing our works and learning to be in the presence of the Lord (Heb 4:10). Abide. Rest. Contentedly resting with our heavenly Father is the source of our rejuvenation, revitalization, and renewal.
Jesus exemplified a life driven by silence and solitude. “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before it was daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place, and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35) Jesus knew that His source of revitalization would not be in the crowds but in being face to face with His Father.
In studying the Word, you will learn that Jesus continually withdrew from people, daily life activities, and the demands of his ministry to be alone with the Father and pray. Jesus’ solitude and silence is a major theme in the Gospels. His ongoing, intimate relationship with his Abba Father was the source of his compassion, wisdom, and power that we see on every page of the Gospels. This quiet place is where he made important decisions. It’s where he dealt with troubling emotions like grief. It’s where he dealt with the constant demands of his ministry and cared for his soul. It’s the place from which he taught his disciples. It’s how he prepared for ministry events. It is even how He prepared for his death on the cross.
Luke 5:16 says, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”He invites us to join him in his solitude so we can also know God as Abba and share his love with others. When we live in that rich inner place, it will increase our outer impact and effectiveness.
Let Jesus’ life inspire each of us to live a life where we lead from the quiet inner confidence we received from time alone with our Abba Father. Imagine if your way of life were to be unhurried. Imagine slowly walking with Jesus. Feel His peace; hear His voice better. Learn from His ways.
Let us not miss the significance of Jesus’ solitude and silence with the Father. How could we think we can live well or love well without following Jesus’ example?

About this Plan
In a world filled with chaos and confusion, how do we find our solid ground? Many voices and noises are entering our minds. Jesus often went away to hear the voice of His Father, the ONE voice that matters. His example calls us to consider “silence and solitude” as a place to reconsider, reprioritize, and rejuvenate. From this place, we can learn to walk with peace of mind.
