The Power in Silence and SolitudeSample
THE DAILY BATTLEFIELD
We live daily on a battlefield… of internal voices. Are we aware of this? Four voices are raging in our heads every single day. These voices can call us into chaos unless we understand what is happening. It's no wonder there is confusion in our lives. No wonder people can be at odds with one another. No wonder there is not “peace on earth."
These four wills/voices are:
1. The voice of God the Father. God designed each of us ON purpose, WITH purpose, and FOR a purpose. He is the Knitter and the Knower of each day of our lives. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. He designed that we walk in an intimate relationship with Him. He is constantly knocking at the door of our hearts as He longs to speak to us.
2. The voice of the enemy. We do have an enemy of our souls—a thief who comes to rob, kill, and destroy our lives, our joy, our families, and God’s will. He seeks death over life and has purposed to destroy all that is good and right. He is sneaky. He is real.
3. The voice of inner self. We have to deal with our self-will, our selfish nature, and our pride that wants our way. We all have a common ground in the “human condition." We all have blind spots. We all are self-centered to some degree.
4. The voice of the others. This could be our parents, a teacher, boss, neighbor, friend, or pastor. There are often many voices in our lives telling or suggesting what to do. Most of these voices mean well, but other voices exist that are not so well-meaning.
After watching the daily battle in my life for over half a century, I realize how real it is. Stop and think about the four voices listed above. The undeniable best choice would be His voice leading us to His will, His way.
Years ago, I decided to start a new daily habit. My first thought in the morning is to say (in the same Spirit of Jesus), “Not my will, but Thine, be done.” Then, I welcome the Lord’s divine interruptions into my day. We know His plans are greater than anything we could hope for or imagine. Choose to yield to God’s will in God’s way.
When we spend time in silence and solitude, we can slow down and listen to the voice of the Father. Be aware of the other voices and the choices. The voice you believe will determine the future you experience.
About this Plan
In a world filled with chaos and confusion, how do we find our solid ground? Many voices and noises are entering our minds. Jesus often went away to hear the voice of His Father, the ONE voice that matters. His example calls us to consider “silence and solitude” as a place to reconsider, reprioritize, and rejuvenate. From this place, we can learn to walk with peace of mind.
