From Now OnSample
Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!
S: Scripture
If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.
O: Observation
Read 1 Corinthians 12:12–31 again.
- What word pictures stand out to you?
- What does this passage teach us about who belongs in the body of Christ?
- What questions do you still have?
A: Application
- When was a time you doubted your place in God's community? What does this passage tell you is true?
- What's something you can do to honor or elevate someone else's gifts?
- What unique things do you bring to God's community? What would it look like to have those gifts be used in worship?
P: Prayer
Spend some time in prayer about your unique gifts. Ask God to help you better understand your place in God's community, and ask for guidance about how to use your gift to benefit others. Then, say thank you for those around you who provide balance with their own skills and personalities.
