Do Not Limit Your Faith
By Bethany M
Today’s passage highlights two main events that happened during Jesus’ ministry on earth.
The first event is Jesus’ transfiguration. He reveals himself as the one true God and the Son of God.
The second event is when Jesus heals a boy who had been possessed by a demon. Jesus reveals his power and authority over the enemy and humankind.
We discover Jesus is the King of Kings and God’s Son who is far greater than the law of Moses or the prophets that went before him in the Old Testament. We understand that God speaks to the disciples making it clear to them to listen to Jesus and only Jesus.
We learn from the second event that not only is Jesus the healer, but he is also the helper and redeemer of our faith. Jesus’ presence encouraged and empowered the son’s dad to lift his faith once again and believe with all his heart, mind, and soul that Jesus could heal his son.
Jesus also teaches the disciples that prayer and fasting is important as we cannot do things in our own strength but need to rely on the power of Jesus. When we pray and fast, we remind ourselves of our dependence on Jesus.
The big takeaway I’d love for you to get from today is this: do not limit your faith. Realize that God responds to our faith.
In what areas of life do you need to increase your faith in Jesus and decrease your reliance on yourself?
