The Truth Project Scriptural DevotionSample
The principles of ownership and dominion are basic to the meaning of personhood. Man controls, develops, and cares for his things precisely because he is made in the image of God. What's mine is mine to dispose of as I will; to take it from me is to strike a blow at the very core of my humanity. This passion for possession is an incentive to all kinds of actions, labor, sacrifice, and striving. And in this power of disposal lies a vast potential for either tremendous good or incalculable evil. Have I examined the place of personal property in God's design for human life and the sphere of labor?
For the many rich gifts You have poured out on me, Lord, possessions, both material and spiritual, intellectual, emotional and relational--I offer You praise and thanks. All I am and all I have I owe to You. As Your child, I have been granted the privilege of partaking of the goodness of Your creation (GEN.1.28, GEN.1.31). Help me to understand and appreciate the grace You have delegated to me as a co-regent and co-possessor of Your world.
