Psalm 3
In this episode of The Chosen, the disciples receive a command from Jesus that feels overwhelming. Their feelings tell them it is too soon, too unclear, too dangerous, and too quick to leave home again. Yet Jesus gives the instruction, so they go, even though they feel unsteady and unsure.
What would you do in a moment like that? How do you steady your heart when obedience feels frightening? Many people try to push through with determination or give themselves a pep talk, but the disciples choose something deeper. They gather together, recite a psalm, and let God’s Word remind them of who God is.
Psalm 3 becomes their anchor. In this psalm, David describes God as a shield around him, the One who restores his honor, the God who answers prayer, and the protector who lifts his head. He speaks of God as Savior and the One who brings blessing. These are truths that strengthen the heart when fear rises.
You may need those reminders as well. Turning to Scripture is not an attempt to convince yourself to be brave; it is a way to place your situation in the right perspective. The God who has proven Himself faithful for thousands of years has not changed, and He remains faithful in your circumstances today.
So consider your own life. Where do you need God to be your shield? Where do you feel wounded or discouraged? Where are you waiting for an answer, or longing for protection? In which parts of your life do you need His blessing because you cannot create it on your own?
You can bring all of these needs to Him. You can speak honestly, pray boldly, and trust that He hears you. He is with you in every assignment and every unknown step.
Psalm 3 was written at a time when David fled from his own son. His danger came from someone very close to him, and his fear was real. Yet even in that moment, he chose to lift his eyes to God and found Him present and steady.
That same God walks with you. He is Immanuel — God with us.
